Thoughts on Thursday

Ok, so I'm not known for my social graces. I would not be welcome at a southern ladies' afternoon tea. I worked in male-dominated fields in both the Air Force, and then for 16 years in telephony. I find it MUCH easier to work with men, than to work with women. I like to discuss options, and make a decision. I hate how women form a committee, discuss something for 5 months, then come to an equitable decision so that no one's feelings get hurt. Give me a break.

So, here are my thoughts on charity. I give my money and/or time to those who I want to receive said money and/or time. If someone is griping because they aren't receiving as much charity as someone else, they need to grow up and deal with it. Life isn't fair. They should be freaking thankful for what they are receiving and shut the hell up. It's a damn shame that one or two people end up spoiling it for everyone else.

And, more than likely, said person(s) who need to read this probably don't read my blog. And that's a shame.

Maw, our mom agrees 100% with you. As an engineer, she's mostly worked in male-dominated fields as well, and most of her good friends are guys.

It is too bad that some people have to spoil it for everyone. As you say, life isn't fair.

We certainly cannot afford to support every single charitable cause, so I think most people give to causes that touch their hearts, or they have some connection to. Perhaps the person who is upset about not getting their "fair share" of the charity could do more to become a part of the cat blogging community. There are lots of ways to become involved that do not cost any money. I do not know who the person is who was upset about the allocation of the charity funds, so this may or may not apply to them.

In happier news, I just read on the Cat Blogosphere where a wonderful person has stepped up to take over the fund-raising efforts!

My Mommy feels a lot like you do Maw. If it grabs her heart and she can afford it, she does it. Simple as that. Now, she would NOT want to be the individual who has to make decisions about which kitty gets what from a pool of charitable funds. She thinks that would be very hard to do and she was happy to read that someone who knows the rules and ins and outs and legal stuff has stepped up to the plate to help in that arena in the cat blogosphere. I think that the cat Mom's who have managed it to this point did a great job!
Anyway, good for you Maw - "pussyfoot" is not a good word to describe you :)
We all love you here in O Hi O! (and Dorf too!)

Well, our Jan wouldn't be welcome at that tea either. We don't know what, who or any details, but we were saddened to read the post on Cat Blogosphere yesterday. We're glad someone has volunteered to take over the fundraising as a non-profit so other kitties can be helped.

The Woman would get along well with your Maw. Well except they are both women so maybe not since they both get along with men better. Anyhow, thanks for saying it. Seriously...I mean grow up to these whiners.

Great post Maw!!!!
We pick and choose our charity donations too. Like most, we have limited resources. I wonder if the complainer ever donates(past/present) and if so how do they "choose" who to donate to.
If they choose A over B, then how can they complain when we do that? Sometimes you're the A sometimes you're the B ;)
As you say"Deal with that"!!!!

You go Maw! Life isn't always fair so grow up and deal with it. In the CB and in life mum see people ask for donations, you can only do so much. But mum offered to help if they need beans to help make rules or decide on who gets what, how much and even how often and under what circumstances.

PS We're sorry for the pain that's been caused to a lot of caring people through all of this donation drama, but we're grateful that someone has agreed to step up and help put things on a firmer footing. It'll prevent things getting out of hand in the future!

Just catching up, so this is a little late.

It doesn't take much reading between the lines to realize you're referring to the latest Cat Blogosphere uproar.

We do not approve of those who solicit donations for THEMSELVES on their blogs. But if the greater community wants to help out, where and when they can, we approve of that. Applause to the person who stepped up and is taking over the charitable giving.
