Wacky Wednesday

Here are all four of the "Fosters" as we still call them 4 years later. From left to right, Smokey, Obi, Reno, and Sally. They were sitting together on the smallest platform in the enclosure last night waiting on the storms to move in.

We started getting them one at a time in April of 2003 to try and get them cured of their chronic diarrhea and help them with their eye problems which turned out to be Feline Herpes 1 or what used to be called Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus. They are all siblings and spent the first 9-11 months of their lives in cages in the Crazy Cat Lady's garage. They will all be 5 years old on May 5. They were born to a truly feral, not just stray, momma cat who as far as I know still lives in a wooden shed on the crazy cat lady's property.

Some of you noticed Sally's expression in yesterday's photo. Part of that is probably that she was upset with Paw for disturbing her sleep with the flashy box, and part of it is the scarring of her third eyelid in her right eye. She still doesn't like to be held, and is only just beginning to sleep with us at night when she is cold. Since we had to give her meds for several months after she came here, and I still have to wipe her eye at least every other day to get the dried black protein off, she doesn't like to be messed with too much.

We've tried to adopt them out at various stages, but Obi has way too many health problems, Reno is fairly untractable, and Sally gets horribly grumpy in a cage at PetSmart. Smokey could probably be adopted out. He is wonderful and affectionate and loves to play, but I'm no longer with that foster group. So here he is.

They all look so gorgeous and happy! It's hard to believe they are siblings because they each look so different.

Obi is really a gorgeous ginger, isn't he? And really he does kinda look like Fat Eric. Not quite as floofy as Eric. It is good that they are all four together, and they are such a beautiful group.

hey - we got lots in common! we are all from the same litter and our mom was feral and we were born on May 5th (but in 2005). we were supposed to be fosters too, but we've been here almost 2 years and so we're not going anywhere. Midnight would have been able to be adopted - she likes everyone, even other kitties. Cocoa is afraid of strangers and bonded with the people instantly, especially with the Lady, so he would've been harder to place. I was, and am, impossible. I don't like strangers, I growl, and I'll bite and scratch if necessary. so, here we stay...

it would be great to have a group birthday party, but Chey & Latte are getting married on May 5th too. we wouldn't want to take away from their big day. maybe we could all go to the wedding together and then celebrate with some birthday nip afterward?

by the way, our Lady found our relatives last week! the feral cat colony we came from was moved from the car repair shop and we hadn't ever seen our family again. our Lady was moving kittens out and to foster homes (we were the last litter to go), and another lady was trapping the adults to get fixed and adopted/fostered/relocated (according to temperament). the Lady heard that another neighbor was taking care of the adults that weren't adopted, but we didn't know where. last week the Lady drove by a house about a block away from the car repair place and saw them! a nice lady who is the sister of our teenagers' former babysitter (got that?) was coming out of her house with a tray of food dishes, and she was suddenly greeted by a swarm of big healthy fluffies - at least a dozen of them. one of them we've seen in the area and he/she looks exactly like Cocoa. since then, the Lady's driven by lots and she's sure those are the kitties from our colony. it made her very very happy to see them doing so well.

Maw, that was a great story. I'm glad that Smokey, Obi, Reno and Sally have you & Paw to love them.
And I'm so glad you rescued them from the Crazy Lady!

Oh beautiful puss cats. I think even cats that are truely skittish still warm to lovable owners.

Ah, these babies all found you and it was meant to me. You are their home. Sniff...makes me teary-eyed...

We are sorry we accused you of being grumpy Sally, now that we know your eyelid is damaged.
That is a nice picture of you all out there waiting for the storms. Do you put your noses in the air and sniff the change in the wind??
We agree with the above comment--- it was meant to be that you are in such a loving caring household.

"Fosters who got to stay" ... That's always nice. Mom says that all of us "just showed up" ... 'cept Cocoa Puff. He was livin' in a cage at the V-E-T and he kept trying to get Mom's attention. She paid $20.00 for him (which was the cost of the food he'd eaten during his stay at the V-E-T) ... She says that he was a "bargain" and too sweet to leave there. The rest of us were "free" ...

You're fortunate to have wonderful humans who love and care for you.

That is so wonderful that all four are together! We also found it interesting about the May 5th birthdays of the four of you and Grr, Midnight and Cocoa, plus the wedding for Chey & Latte all on Cinco de Mayo! Ole!

You are all very lucky to have found a wonderful Forever Home. Very sad that you had such a rough start in life in the Crazy Cat Lady's garage, but thank goodness you were adopted by wonderful humans who have kept you.
