Viralys

Today we will tell you about L-lysine from yesterday's post. It is an amino acid that combats arginine. Many people purchase L-lysine at the drug store or WalMart and grind up the people tablets which is totally fine. But for Maw, her left hand has the arthritically messed up thumb bone and is susceptible to daily grinding and other means of messing it up royally. So, she is purchasing the already ground up Viralys to put in our food daily. It has a fishy smell, which when newly opened can be a teensy weensy bit offensive to Maw for well, like several months. So anyway, the L-lysine is known for stopping arginine from reproducing during our rhinotracheitis virus, or Feline Herpes 1 virus and stops us from shedding the virus to all the other cats in the household.

Our human purchases a lot of stuff for us online too. Things like that she prefers to have her vet recommend so she knows what is safe to work with what.

Good stuff to have for you cats!
Our mom is taking some anty-biotics right now that smell like sulfur when she opens the pill bottle. Why can't everything smell & taste like chicken?

I can see how she wouldn't want to grind the tablets! I used to use capsules you could just open but even that with all of you would be quite difficult.

Spirit and Ezra sez... We Luff luff luff out Viralys. We get ours at the vet and when Momma opens the bottle we will stick ours heads in for a taste. Since Ezzy was in the pound for 8 months , he has chronic URI and has to get it a couple of times a weeks to help with his snifflies and Boogies.

We think that stuff works good. There is a lot of herpes virus at the shelter, especially the cats that come from Animal Control. It works great to keep the outbreaks under control.

ps: They also use a lot of idoxuridine eye drops for the actual outbreaks.

My Mum said she knew it worked for cold sores, and that is a herpes virus, but it never occurred to her that it would work in cats! That is good information to have.

yep, we gets is every day. Mommy buys the capsules and just opens one up and puts it in our foods. no fishy smell and no grinding. but there are lots of you so the fishy smelling stuff is prolly easier.
