Where We Have Been

So Maw went to the doctor again this week because her speech has been messed up since mid-May when her sinus infection was really bad. Her words aren't correct and sometimes they aren't proper in the sentence. We've left a few postings, and we've tried to leave some messages here and there but the words aren't always correct and Maw has had a very hard time with this process. So the doctor tells Maw that her ears and nose are clear and that she doesn't have a sinus infection, but he wants her to get a CT scan to see if anything is messed up. So she gets the CT scan on Wednesday, and his nurse calls her the same day to get her to have an MRI scan done, so she gets that done on Thursday and then the nurse calls and asks her to come in on Friday to see the doctor and Maw has no idea what is going on and starts looking up various problems on the internet and has no idea what is wrong other than the sinus infection is still there and she knows it is.

The doctor told Maw that she had a subacute stroke and that although she wasn't experiencing the various neurological signs of it, that indeed they needed to figure out why she had one at such a "young" age. So Maw doesn't turn 50 until August of this year, and she needs to go see a neurologist, and also get some extra tests done before seeing him and try to figure out why she had a stroke at a "younger" age. Maw read on the internet last night that people who have had strokes tend to have more of them. Loverly.

Oh, and yes, she still has the sinus infection inside her maxillary sinus passages on the right side and so she also needs to go see her ENT doctor again too. The CT scan showed that problem nicely. She's had sinus surgery on that side 10 years ago and it lasted fairly well for 10 years.

So, yes, we're still around and we drop in on blogs and read what is going on. We're doing Ham-Micks and Maw seriously needs to update the site and show other colors that we have. Bow is getting his medicines, and G.T. got his shots yesterday. The house is a total disaster, and we have a ton of way too many tomatoes this time of year because of the heat wave we've had so far this summer. But we're still here.

Lots of Luf, Us

Oh, Maw, my prayers are with you. My Charley had a stroke when he was 48. He was still much older than you. They found out he took over the counter cold meds that raised his blood pressure.
Please, if we can do anything to help you, please let us know.
Also, he has not come close to anything resembling a stroke in the years since, so don't worry there. Once they get your meds right, you are usually okay.
Love, ML (KC & The Sherwood Bunch)

KC and the Giggleman Kitties said...

Me again, any thing you might take OTC for sinus, colds, etc. can potentially cause a stroke if you have certain predispositions, like high blood pressure, etc. Charley can only take the Coriciden HBP(spelling?) pills for colds now. Tell your doctor anything you have taken for the sinus infections, even herb teas and herb supplements.

This is some pretty scary news. I am hoping and praying that all goes well for you from now on. Not everyone who has a stroke has more of them. A friend of my Mother's had one many years ago and has never had another.

Dragonheart, Merlin, Devi, and Chloe said...

Your poor Maw! We will send our strongest purrs and prayers her way. Some people do have those kinds of strokes at a young age - one of our mom's friends who is only in her early 30s, had a minor stroke after a chiropractic treatment! Another friend of hers in her late 30s had a stroke and aneurysm. She is doing well now, but had to have a lot of therapy to get there.

Purring and praying hard for your Maw.

Dennis says take care but don;t worry too much--a friend had a little stroke when she was 30, and no reason for it at all-- a real healthy person, ate right, --but she couldn't speak right or read for awhile --confusion. The brain does heal and she is 57 now and no other stroke has happened. She exercises and gets fresh air more, but that was the only change she made .
