Recipes

Some of you wanted the Kitty Litter Cake Recipe, and some of you wanted the Dump Cake Recipe. Maw has never made the Kitty Litter Cake, but a friend of hers did. Here are a couple of sites where you can get the recipe. It's a great Halloween cake.

Here is the Dump Cake recipe that Maw makes. She looked up the Crock Pot Dump Cakes on the internets, and there are several different recipes, some using blueberries, some using peaches. So you can Google those and pick which ones you like.

This one that Maw makes goes over really well at her parties, and Paw eats the rest by the next day.

Classic Cherry Dump Cake

1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple (do not drain)
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling (do not get plain canned cherries; the pie filling may be
on the baking aisle if it's not with the canned fruit)
1 (18.25 oz.) package plain yellow cake mix
12 T. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, melted
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 F.
Spoon the pineapple evenly over the bottom of an ungreased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover the pineapple with the cherry pie filling.
Pour the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit mixture so that it reaches all the sides of the pan. Drizzle the entire pan with the melted butter. Do not stir. Sprinkle the coconut and pecans evenly over the top of the cake. Place the pan in the oven.
Bake until the cake is deep brown and a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake topping comes out clean, 55 minutes to an hour. Remove the pan from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.
Store the cake, covered in plastic wrap, for up to 1 day in the refrigerator if using a metal pan, or up to a week if using a glass pan. Makes 12 to 16 servings.

Tomorrow we'll give you the King Ranch Chick-Hen recipe. It doesn't last long either!

No crock pot here but an abundance of crack pots.

Oh we meant the kitty litter cake. The other cake sounds good but she was so focused on the cat litter cake, she is sort of caked out for the moment!

Thanks for these recipes. I don't think I can get cherry pie filling over here in England... I wonder what would happen if I made it with plain old cherries?

Yum, that looks good (the dump cake, not the kitty litter cake). Also like the King Ranch recipe - very similar to a recipe I have. I just didn't realize it was a variation of the King Ranch one.
