Sunday Splints

Ok. Yestday we showed u Maw's shoes fur Plantar Fasciitis. Now we show u wat she wears to bed efurry night. It's dangerous to sleep arownd her, but we still do.

This splint is the Healwell Night Splint. It works the best in Maw's opinion at keeping her foot stretched. She wears it on her right foot.

This is the Dorsal night splint that Maw wears on her left foot.

This sock contraption didn't work at all for Maw. Her podiatrist sold it to her, but she can still make her foot go almost flat when wearing it, so it didn't keep her foot stretched at night.

This is the thumb spica splint that Maw wears on her left hand at night and when driving or mowing the grass or pushing a grocery cart. Maw has severe osteoarthritis in her left thumb and her arm goes numb when the thumb gets over-used and inflamed. She found out she had this condition when she was in court reporting school a couple of years ago.

So, as you can see, Maw wears lots of dangerous devices to bed at night. It is tricky sleeping with her. We usually go flying when she moves so we don't get boinked by contortion devices. Yup.

Yup, I'd be careful in bed with her too! But I bet it's worth the risk to snuggle!

Guess what? My Daddie sometimes wears a splint just like that first contraption for his achilles tendon. On account of he runs too much. I think it works good!

Seanbean wears hard braces called AFOs during the day. Everyone has to watch out when he starts swinging his feet cause it really hurts to get hit by them. You guys are wise to get away when your Maw start moving at night! Yikes!

Isn't it amazing how many things have been created to help beans that wouldn't have been available in earlier times?

Sometimes, when mom's been on her feet to long, her sciatica acts up worser than ushual and she will sit on a funny pillow dat vibrates. She has to rap her left foot and pull it up and den rap it around her calf so when she wakes up her leg duzzent go num. It's all acuz of a big truck rolling over grammas car when mom wuz in it. We don't unnerstand much of it and her duzzent like ta talks about it a lot, not cuz of da aksident but cuz of what grampa did after it.
