Kittens
To all my dearest friends, I need some help. My cousin's cat had kittens and he was able to give away all but 4 of them. I told him I would help him find homes for the last 4. I can't take one because I am allergic, but if you could take just one it would be such a help and the kittens could have a nice home. Since he lives by the Nuclear Power Plant, I'll go pick them up for you. I've attached pictures of the last 4 kittens. Will you help?

A Bit of Levity
Notice to Dogs and Cats
To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - snout height.
Dear Dogs and Cats,
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food.
Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate of food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!
To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:
To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets
1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.
Remember, Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
1. Eat less
2. Don't ask for money all the time
3. Are easier to train
4. Usually come when called
5. Never drive your car
6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
7. Don't smoke or drink
8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions
9. Don't wear your clothes
10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Updates, Spinning Webs, Cold
Update on Reno: He was very vocal after coming home from the V-E-T on Saturday. Poor guy would even wake up meowing. He was also hoarse, leading us to believe he did a lot of howling while at the V-E-T. He has also been kinda clingy with Maw, following her efurrywhere and even lying on her lap. But he also puts the HARD bitey on her fingers, which is another reason why he was never adopted.
As for the C/D, although the V-E-T said he needed to be on it the rest of his life, he doesn't like the canned stuff, and Maw doesn't want to switch the whole gang over to C/D, primarily because of Obi's penile urethrostomy. The surgeon who performed Obi's operation told Maw at the time that Obi should not be on any of the URI diets because they could end up causing the opposite crystals, although he never exhibited any crystals when he was blocked. He was blocked with sediment and had a severe bladder infection. He has had several bladder infections since, and he has to go on steroids to bring the inflammation down. The V-E-T believes these bladder infections are due to Obi's "sensitive" nature and stress. And Obi & Reno are siblings. So Maw might mix dry C/D with the rest of our dry foods (except for Gatsbi's R/D that stays on the floor) so that Reno gets some C/D, but she doesn't want to switch our entire diet to C/D. And Reno drinks plenty of water from the fountains and the bathroom sinks. He did NOT like drinking water from that tiny little ceramic bowl in his cage at the V-E-T. So Maw isn't going to hold Keno & Bunco in the same months from now on, and isn't going to bring a toddler over to see us. Since Obi & Reno are both so susceptible to stress and bladder infections. Oy!
As for Dorfie, the book about blind dogs hasn't arrived yet. But knowing that Dorfie is going blind helps Maw to understand his behaviors better now. Such as; he walks with his nose very close to the ground much of the time. He also startles very easily when he is closely inspecting something and another poodin comes up and sniffs him. He likes to walk right into the pantry when Maw pulls out the food containers and closely inspect it. He does the same with the cabinets.
Several of you suggested ramps and steps. We already have steps leading up to the bed because it is one of those super tall Shaker beds. Dorfie uses those steps. He also uses the step next to the garden tub, then climbs on the tub, then jumps onto the bathroom counter to get to the food and water up there.
Last night was the first "cool" night of the season. It actually dropped into the 50s in the 'burbs. There were so many poodins huddled up against Maw that she couldn't move. We had her pinned down. At one time when she got too hot from too many poodins, she had to wake up, sit on the pillow and pull her legs out from under the covers and the poodins.
Finally, several of you asked about Maw spinning spider webs. Well, it is Halloween time, but she isn't doing that. She is working on her web master certification at the local community college through their continuing ed program. She's not thinking of going out and getting a great job with it because these classes aren't that detailed and she isn't a 25 year old who grew up designing web pages and games and stuff. What she wants to do with it is to design her own web site for cat items and other stuff. Currently she is taking Intro to Javascript which she loves because the instructor is great and makes it easy to understand. Here is the local community college's web master certification program:

Award!

We in turn, would luf to award dis award to:
Empress Bee of the High Sea because she loves all of us poodins out in Cat Blogosphere land and she features us on her sidebar, and she always visits us and says such nice things to us and her blog is very funny because she posts blond jokes and talks about ball powder and going on cruises and fried foods in Podunk. Yup.
Daisy the Curly Cat because her posts are informative, funny, cute, and sometimes she lets her bananer eating sisfur on to tell us about cardiomyopathy in poodins.
The Meezer Tails, Sammy & Miles because they crack us up. They are always getting into something, or devising methods to get Miles' footon back home, or screaming for Ham. Also, Miles is Dorf's toofless brudder from a different mudder.
Eric and Flynn, who are our British cousins across the pond. They also crack us up with their antix in da feelds an on der farm eekwipmint. Dey also post beeyoutiful pictors of da feeldz arownd der farm an da treez dat dey climb.
Ok, so we know that Empress Bee just left on her furreffer long cruise, and Daisy's mom is still MIA, and Eric & Flynn's mum just left on her furreffer long hollyday, but that's ok. We award them anyway.

Thirteen Reasons Why it Sucks to Be Me, by Dorf 1. I had 3 dental surgeries. 2. I have no teeth left. None. Zip. Zero. Nadda. 3. I had a capillary vasculitis eruption after my first dental surgery and had a big hole in my stomach that took 6 months to heal. 4. I had to wear a 12 month Onesie to keep me from licking the cream off my eruption. 5. I was a conehead after each dental surgery. 6. I am going blind. 7. Obi smacks me now when he walks up to me. 8. I still corner Obi and Reno, and scare the pee and poo out of them, but not as much as I used to when my teeth hurt. 9. When I try to jump up on stuff now, sometimes I don't make it and that is scary. 10. I have to live with 9 other poodins and share my Maw & Paw. 11. I try to stay very close to Maw when the sun starts going down because it gets very hard for me to see. 12. I get spooked by things I can't see when my nose bumps into them. 13. My brother, G.T., is trying to take over my job of cornering Reno & Obi. Luf, Dorf |

Update on Reno & Dorf
Reno is going to stay at the V-E-T until at least Saturday. He has cystitis with blood and white blood cells in his urine. The V-E-T and techs are having trouble pilling him. (Heh, heh) That's why I left him there. I took a blankie and some of his favorite foods and Temptayshuns to him yesterday and I could hear his howling when I walked in the front door.
As Eric & Flynn's mum pointed out, cystitis can be caused by stress, and Reno has been stressed this past month what with my Bunco group, and then the Keno group taking place here. And then I've been babysitting a 2 1/2 year old twice a week and I've brought her over for about 15 minutes each day while I check on the litter boxes and clean up any yak that has been deposited since morning. So, I guess Reno is a bit sensitive to stress, just like his brother Obi.
The news on Dorf isn't as positive. He was diagnosed with generalized retinal degeneration. This is rarely genetic, except in Abyssinians. It is also much more common in dogs than in cats. In Dorf's case it is likely idiopathic since I've noticed his eyes looking strange for several years. Initially I thought it was the anti-depressants he was on for his aggressive behavior and inappropriate elimination, until we found out he had Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions. Then I thought his eyes would get weird looking when he was in pain from his teeth. Now that both of those issues are resolved, I was hoping there was another reason for his eyes looking weird. An issue that could be fixed with medication or something.
Generalized retinal degeneration can also be caused by an abnormal reaction to high doses of Baytril. Dorf was on Baytril for an extended period of time after his first dental surgery when he had the capillary vasculitis eruption, but his eyes had already been going bad before that. However, the Baytril could have exacerbated the degeneration.
At any rate, there is nothing that can be done. The ophthamologist suggested keeping rooms as bright as possible for Dorf because that will help him. She also suggested that I get the book Living with Blind Dogs by Caroline Levin. I can also take Dorf back for yearly checkups to see how he is doing. His sight might progress to total blindness, and it may have gone as far as it will, but I think he will become totally blind as he seems to be getting worse. He still responds to the rudimentary light tests, and the threat tests, but since he can't read an eye chart for us, we don't know for sure how advanced it is. But under the microscope and using the various tests that they have, he shows advanced diffuse tapetal hyperreflectivity, vascular attenuation and optic nerve pallor.
I looked all this up on the internet, and most of the stuff I found refers to dogs or to progressive retinal degeneration, which seems to render a cat blind in a matter of months from a quick onset.
If any of you have blind poodins I would love to hear from you. The ophthamologist told me not to move furniture and keep things as static as possible to help Dorf. My biggest fear is that the other cats will bully him. I've noticed that since his FORLs are all gone, Obi now smacks him upside the head. Dorf still does chase Obi and Reno and corners them, but not to the degree he once did when his teeth hurt. The vet said that once they get their pecking order all figured out, things may calm down. So I would love to hear how multicat households with a blind poodin cope.

Tuxie Tummy Tuesday & a Few Purrayers Please!!
Reno was rushed to the V-E-T yesterday because he has a severe bladder infection. He was vomiting and squatting anyplace in the house as if he were constipated, but he was actually straining very hard to urinate. So he is staying at the vet for a few days since we really can't catch him to medicate him. He was in the crazy cat lady's garage longer than his siblings and is really intractable. That's why he is always first to get his claws trimmed on claw trimming weekend because if he finds out what is going on, he will run from us for the next 3 weeks. So we grab him when he is sound asleep and then trim his claws before anyone elses.
Also, Dorf is going to the ophthamologist today for his eyes. His eyes stay dilated and are kind of cloudy at times. I thought this was because of his teeth pain, and the vet dentist confirmed it, but now all his teeth are gone and his eyes are still not right. The regular V-E-T said that he isn't blind because he can track light correctly, but I still think something is wrong.
So we could use some hugs and healing purrs and headbutts and nosekisses around here if y'all don't mind.
Luf, Maw
